With approvals from the town council in hand, the 11-story luxury condominium project Grandview at Bay Beach, located on Bay Beach Lane, is officially in its construction phase after a groundbreaking ceremony Feb. 4.

The London Bay Development Group is behind the estimated $50 million project which will bring 58 units to Fort Myers Beach. The price of the condos are currently priced at more than $900,000 to $2.6 million.

Suffolk Construction, a Boston-based contracting company, will oversee the building of the tower on the gated section of the Waterside neighborhood. London Bay Development Group co-founder Mark Wilson said he expects the units to be fit for occupancy by the summer of 2021.

The company's plans were approved by the town in 2017. Last month, the town council approved a request to add on guest suites. Wilson said this is the first major luxury condo tower project on Fort Myers Beach in a decade. "I think people are ready for something new," he said.

The Naples-based developers believe this is the last available high-rise site on the south side of the island.

"It's the last one," Wilson said. "Every residence has beautiful views. You are in walking distance to the beach."

The company has also developed projects in the area such as Moorings Park Grande Lake in Naples and Bayview on Estero Bay.

"We're very pleased to be part of the community," Wilson said.

The developers have a sales center on Bay Beach Lane with videos showing the floor plans and views from each floor, as well as architectural renderings. Curts Gaines Hall Jones Architects designed the project.

The units will range from 2,400 to 2,900 square feet and will feature nine-foot ceilings, three or four bedrooms, a den, up to three-and-a-half bathrooms, private elevator access and dedicated covered space in the main garage. Six top-floor penthouses feature 11-foot ceilings with the owners also gaining private car garages.

Other features of the complex include a club room with a bar and fireplace and a catering kitchen in the covered outdoor area. A wide oval turf area will serve as the center for a trio of fire pits with comfortable seating. Additional amenities will include a fitness center and yoga studio.

Residents at Grandview will also have access to Waterside's pool and spa, tennis courts, walking and jogging paths, a fishing pier, and walkable beach access.

The developers have pledged to construct a 1.2-mile walking path around a scenic nature site and ponds at the site of a former golf course on Bay Beach Lane.
