Christmas Market returns to the Mound House

After being placed on the National Register for Historic Places this year, the Mound House on Fort Myers Beach has "seen an incredible surge of visitors," Friends of the Mound House Vice President Gayle Crabtree-Pergoli said.

The nonprofit fundraising arm of the ancient Calusa shell mound site hopes that will translate into more funds to support the extensive programming at 451 Connecticut St., when they hold their second Christmas Market Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The market will feature local vendors, a food truck from Dog House, beer samples from Momentum Brewery, photo opportunities with Saint Nick and entertainment from Chapel by the Sea.

The Friends of the Mound House will be selling baked goods, poinsettias and handmade items from Mali. The Mali items were brought over by Friends of the Mound House President Ellen Vaughn, whose daughter teaches there.

Crabtree-Pergoli said she hopes that fundraiser brings people in for the market while also serving as an invitation to visit the Mound House Museum, which will be free to visitors on Dec. 14. There will be a shuttle service to the Mound House from the parking lot. The museum and gift shop will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Mound House has regularly scheduled tours as well as kayak tours.
