The Santini Farmer's Market has returned to the south end for season, with more than 40 vendors.

Now in its eighth year, the market continues to offer small business owners a casual way to sell their wares.

Debbie Alford, owner of Pink Llama Studios, said she prefers to sell her hand-painted glassware from the comfort of a tent because of the independence it gives her.

"I'm my own boss," the Naples resident said.

"I was an art teacher for 20 years, and when I quit teaching, I kind of didn't know what to do, and I saw an ad for a farmer's market. I originally sold my paintings, but I always had a little basket of the bottles, and it's just evolved into this."

This is her second year working at the Santini Market, which focuses on featuring handicrafts and local food.

At a table nearby, Rhonda Miller helps curious shoppers try on hand-made silver bracelets with beads that hold sand from the beach, just across the street.

She represents The Island Jewel, a shop that opened in Santini Plaza in 2012.

"Tuesdays are busier," she said, "but Thursdays are doing very well also. We welcome it."

Juan Acosta and his wife are new vendors this year.

They come from Cape Coral to sell three flavors of flan - guava, coconut, and original - plus fresh juice and empanadas.

When asked why they participate in the market, Juan shrugged.

"They gave me an opportunity over here, so I came."

The market is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Santini Marina Plaza.
