Fort Myers Beach tops Healthy Lee's challenge

April 12, 2017
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

Fort Myers Beach has been on the move.

It's currently winning the Lee County Million Mile Movement.

Organized by Healthy Lee, the challenge began Jan. 9 and ended March 31 and aimed at getting individuals, teams and companies to compete for the most steps completed by setting goals for steps taken while also contributing to the overall county goal of hitting 1 million miles. The distance was counted through individual activities, including walking, taking the stairs, running, swimming and bicycling.

Via an online site, participants could track their progress and input their progress while checking on the leader board by city, team and individual competitors. Fort Myers Beach collectively logged 249,454 miles, beating Cape Coral by 1,500 miles. *Chapel By the Sea was the biggest contributor, logging 12,267 miles as a team.

*A previous version of this story incorrectly identified the biggest Fort Myers Beach contributor.
