San Carlos Bay Sail & Power Squadron offers America’s Boating Course

The San Carlos Bay Sail & Power Squadron, a unit of the United States Power Squadrons, will be offering “America’s Boating Course” beginning Saturday, April 1, from 8:15a.m. to 12:30p.m.This course is recognized by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators(NASBLA), and satisfies the Florida state requirement that anyone born after Jan. 1, 1988, must pass a safe boating course and obtain a Boating Safety Education ID card, which is valid for life, in order to operate a boat with more than 10 horsepower. Each student will receive a card/certificate from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission upon completion of the class. The course consists of two sessions on consecutive Saturdays. The second session will be on Saturday, April 8,also from 8:15a.m. to 12:30p.m.

Topics covered include hull design, docking, anchoring, handling boating emergencies, reading channel markers and many other topics to make each boating experience safer and more enjoyable. Successful completion of this course entitles the boater to 18 months of membership in a United States Power Squadron for the price of 12 months. The cost of the course is $45.00 with a $20.00 cost for a second person sharing the instruction materials.

The course is being taught at the San Carlos Bay Sail & Power Squadron Classroom located at 16048 San Carlos Blvd. at the corner of Kelly Road (across from ACE Hardware).
