Bidding for the Kitties — Quarter auction for Cat Tails benefit Thursday

By Staff | Oct 20, 2016

Organized to help rehome domesticated homeless kittens and cats of the island, Cat Tails is hosting a very special Quarter Auction benefit Thursday, Oct. 20, at the First Baptist Church Retreat Center, 130 Connecticut St., from 6 to 9 p.m.

“Guests of the event can enjoy quarter auction fun to help pay for the vetting and care of an ever-growing number of homeless cats,” said Joanne Knobloch, an organizer of the benefit.

Never attended a quarter auction before? It’s simple, and lots of fun. Rent a paddle for $3, bring a couple rolls of quarters and prepare to experience an evening filled with chances to win lots of great prizes.

“We encourage all animal lovers to come out and help us with this great local cause,” Joanne said. “We have many wonderful vendors who will be set up at the benefit, each donating a great amount of gifts to be auctioned off. Once an item is offered that you’d like to bid on, you place a certain amount of quarters in the bucket (no more than three), and then a paddle number is randomly chosen. It is such a fun way to help raise funds for rehoming the stray/domesticated cats of the island.”

There will also be plenty of homemade gourmet food and beverage treats from Nico’s Kitchen, serving a wealth of fabulous Greek specialties, as well as silent auctions, 50/50 raffle, additional games, and many vendors.

“We are so happy to have Nico’s Kitchen serving delicious food that night it just completes the evening,” Joanne said.

Joanne leads a team of Fort Myers Beach residents, who catch, vet and rehome domesticated cats of the island. She encourages anyone in the area to call her immediately once they see stray kittens or cats, to give them the biggest chance of being rehomed.

“Once they get to about three months of age, there’s really no chance of domesticating them, and they have to live feral, so it’s imperative I’m called ASAP,” Joanne said. “As we care for the cats prior to rehoming, we’re offering a special drawing for anyone who donates any wet or dry cat food that evening during our quarter auction.”
